Preview: Letter H Activities that would be perfect for preschool or kindergarten. Art, fine motor, literacy and alphabet practice all rolled into Letter H fun.
Up next in our weekly alphabet study is the letter H activities. We had some handwriting practice, fine motor practice, art project and some review of all of the letters we've learned so far using a fun game we bought. I like to go back and review to make sure she is remembering the letters we've done the previous weeks.

Letter H Picture Book
To start our study of the letter H and a week of fun activities, we read the book The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton. We talked about how the word house starts with H. Then I showed my daughter what an H looked like in the book and we searched for other H's. I made sure to pick a book that matched the picture that we would create next for our alphabet art book.

For the alphabet book we are working on, we added H is for House. We decided to color the house with crayons this week. She, of course, opted for a rainbow colored house. My girls are obsessed with all things rainbow. The alphabet book is part of my Alphabet Centers with Real Pictures.

Letter H Identification
We practiced identifying the letter H in all different fonts with our H page from our Alphabet Centers pack. I give her a dot marker and let her go. This is an easy activity that she can do while I'm setting up the next activity.
We also pulled out our sticker page and caught up on the letters we've learned the past few weeks. This is just a roll of black paper and I write the letters at the top in silver Sharpie. Then I give her a bunch of letter stickers. She sorts through them and looks for the letters we are focusing on and then puts them in the correct column. This helps her to get used to seeing the letter H in different fonts. It also helps her fine motor skills as she picks the stickers off the page.

Letter H Fine Motor Practice
For some fine motor and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) practice, we used some colored popsicle sticks. I just told her to build a house. I let her do it anyway she wanted. She mostly did flat shapes but started to do a few 3D versions at the end.
Alphabet Practice
To review some of the letters we've covered so far, we pulled out LeapFrog Letter Factory Leaping Letters. This is kind of like the game Perfection where you try to get all of the pieces in the correct spot before time runs out and the board pops and the pieces fly all over. The girls love playing this and you can adjust how long the timer is set for to make it trickier.
