With Christmas coming, I am constantly asked for ideas for my girls (4 and 5 1/2) and I want to nicely say, anything but toys. I don't want to be rude or seem unappreciative, but my girls have so much "stuff" and I feel like our playroom and bedrooms can't handle any more toys. I love when I come across an idea that my girls would love, and it wouldn't be just another toy in our house. That is why I was SO excited to try out HelloBible subscription box for kids. This would make an AWESOME gift for the kids in your life. They would get fun mail each month and it would provide the whole family with a chance to read a Bible story, discuss the story and create a fun craft to help make their learning more tangible. It is really a gift for the whole family! Keep reading to find out more about what HelloBible is and see just one of the fun crafts that we tried out.
What is HelloBible?
According to their website:
HelloBible is a monthly christian subscription for kids ages 5 and older. Its content is a thoughtfully designed Bible and art curriculum meant to help kids understand God's Word and draw them closer to the Lord. It is ideal for families and homeschooling families to explore a Bible story each month through multisensory learning, art projects and fun activities. All materials and instructions are included.
What is included?
Each box includes a Bible storybook, lesson plans and activities related to the story and all of the supplies you will need to complete the crafts. There is also a travel journal where children can collect the coloring and activity sheets that come in the box and it can serve as a Bible journal where they can share their learning. In the picture above you will see only some of what came in our box. This is just what we needed for one craft - so we got the storybook, craft supplies, directions with pictures and lesson plans. I love that it even includes the glue and paint that we needed (not pictured.) I consider myself a crafty mom and we have a lot of supplies on hand, but sometimes it is so nice to have a craft that is prepped for us and I don't have to pull out any of my own supplies. I think all I needed to add for this was a cup of water for the watercolor painting! Total win especially this time of year.
What is the age range for HelloBible?
According to their site, the range is ages five and above. I did the activities from the box with my four year old. She was able to complete the crafts without a problem. She needed a little more help and guidance with some of the discussion questions that were related to the Bible story we read. I think her older sister would probably have had an easier time with it, but you could definitely adapt it so that multiple ages could benefit from it.I love that HelloBible offers an option to have more than one child included in a subscription box. You can chose the amount of children at checkout so that you get enough craft supplies for everyone to use, without having to purchase a separate box for each child. This would also be awesome if you taught in a Sunday school situation and wanted an already planned activity and lesson plans and crafts that are prepped and ready to go.
What does a typical craft look like?
We were working with the Christmas box so the activity we focused on was making a Nativity scene. There were two crafts in the box, but I just have pictures for the first one. I have a slight obsession with collecting Nativity scenes so I was excited to add another kid friendly one to our collection.
First, we read the book that came with it that told the Christmas story. We talked about some of the discussion questions and then we got out the supplies for our craft. First up was to stick stickers on each of the wooden blocks. The directions had pictures (which is SO helpful for visual learners like me) and suggestions for what stickers to put on the different colored blocks. Then we had to stick the matching blocks to the back with strong glue so that they would be able to stand up.
While we waited for the blocks to dry, we painted the star that would go at the top. Again, it was awesome that the paint was included so we didn't have to dig out our paint.
Once everything was dried, we finished assembling the manager and set up all of the characters from the Christmas story. This was all done relatively quickly so my daughter was engaged and focused the whole time. It was the perfect activity for her!How does HelloBible work?
HelloBible has a great website with a FAQs section to answer any questions you might have. Basically, you sign up for the subscription service and you get billed each month. You will receive one box a month. They also have options to pay for 6 and 12 months at one time for a discounted rate. You can cancel at anytime. You also have the option to give this as a gift and send a note for the recipient. Not sure what to get the child on your list who has enough toys? This would be PERFECT! Something they can enjoy each month and it will strengthen their understanding of the Bible and their relationship with God. That is a a winning gift in my book!!
I highly recommend the HelloBible subscription box for kids. I found the lesson plans to be well thought out, easy to follow, engaging for little ones while teaching some of the stories of the Bible. Everything came wrapped and packaged so nicely and they really have thought of everything with picture and word directions, all supplies included, extra activity sheets relevant to the topic and a journal to store it all in.
