Summer is coming and that means it is time for one of our favorite activities - camping!!! I've got some camping fun for you today and some math practice all in one. These camping themed telling time clip cards are a great way to practice telling time to the half hour.

These self-correcting clip cards are great for scaffolded practice as they offer multiple choice answers to help narrow down the possible answer. Throwing in the clothespins to clip the correct answer adds another level of fun, plus some fine motor practice.

Prepping Camping Themed Telling Time Clip Cards

Supplies Needed:

Camping Telling Time Clip Cards (free download at the bottom of this post)
Laminator (optional)
Cardstock
Printer (this is the one I use)
Scissors or Paper Cutter
Clothespins (plastic like shown in my pictures, traditional wood clips, or mini and colorful)

Prepping the Clip Cards

  1. Print out the clip cards on cardstock (it prints 2 per page).
  2. Cut the clip cards out and fold in half.
  3. Laminate so that you seal up that fold and there is now a front and back 
  4. Cut out each card

How to Use Camping Telling Time Clip Cards

The beauty of this activity is that it is math practice and fine motor practice all in one. Have students read the camping activity on the left side of the card and the time that activity starts. Then, they will look at the three clocks on the right and decide which time matches the time on the left.

Once they've picked the correct clock, they grab a clothespin, squeeze it open (hello bonus fine motor practice) and clip it on that clock. You can come around and check answers quickly this way. Or students could self check and do this activity independently.

One of the things I LOVE about these clip cards, is that students can check their answers on their own. This makes it a great independent activity. Obviously, you might need to talk about not peeking at the answer and making sure that your students pick the clock and clip it on before they ever flip it over.

If they have selected the correct answer, there will be a yellow dot behind the clothespin. If they got the wrong answer, they can see what the correct answer is supposed to be and figure out where they went wrong.

These camping themed telling time clip cards are perfect for small math groups to introduce or reinforce the concept of time. They would also be great as a math center activity to practice telling time to the half hour.
