Ideas for Using Contraction Matching Cards

Here are just 3 different ways to use these matching cards.

Contraction Flash Cards - cut the cards apart but leave the matching words hooked together. Fold in half and then laminate. Now you have a contraction on one side and the two words that make the contraction on the other side. Perfect for having students quiz each other and practice what contractions two different words make.

Contraction Memory Game - cut the cards apart and mix them all up. Lay them face down into neat rows and columns. Players take turns flipping over two cards looking for a match. When they find a contraction and the two words that it comes from, they keep those cards and go again. The player with the most matches wins.

Contraction Go Fish - Cut apart the cards, shuffle, and give each player 3 cards to start. Players take turns asking for a match to a card that they have in their hands. Example: If I'm holding "can't" I would say, "Do you have can not?" If the other player has the matching card, they hand it over. If not they say go fish and the player who asked takes a card from the pile. Players continue to take turns until all cards are matched up.
